Wesgate FamilyAbout MomsOfInfluence.com

MomsOfInfluence.com was founded in 2014 out of an abundance of passion – the kind of passion that cannot be shaken – the “can’t not do this” kind of passion. Sarah Wesgate, the founder of this site, is on a mission to raise children with the heart and skills to lead others well, and equip others to do the same.

MomsOfInfluence.com will help build a community of moms (and dads) supporting one another as we raise our next generation of young people who will eventually lead our communities, country and world.  Through this site, readers will be equipped with (1) practical tips to become more effective leaders themselves, and (2) knowledge and skills that will help them raise children with leadership qualities.  In this community, the most basic form of leadership is simply “Influence” (as defined by John Maxwell).  Our ultimate goal, then, is to raise children whose influence will be positive, authentic, moral, and “right” for our relationships, communities, nation, and world.  Can you imagine an entire generation rising up to influence this world for good?  We sure could use it, don’t you think?  If you are not sure, turn on the news.

Now, Will you join me on this mission?

About Sarah Wesgate

I am a wife, mom, and passionate student of leadership. It has been a sometimes long and windy journey getting to this place.  As a reader, you will become more familiar with my journey as little lessons arise from my own experiences.  I am an imperfect person, but perfectly loved by a perfect God.  As soon as I knew how, I was ready to write.  As soon as I knew people needed encouragement, I was ready to encourage.  I can’t shake the writer and encourager that seems to be knitted into my DNA. As a result, I pursued an education in Sport Psychology, where I learned how to professionally encourage coaches and athletes towards more effective leadership, teamwork, communication, relationships and mental toughness. During my graduate education, leadership grabbed a hold of me when I read Becoming a Person of Influence, by John C Maxwell.  The book redefined my entire purpose and re-framed my life perspective.  I can honestly say that the topic of Leadership has changed me.  While I spent the first 20 years of my life consumed with a fear of never being good enough, I am spending the rest of my life determined to influence others in a way that moves them towards more effective living.  My focus has shifted and it has allowed me to let go of fear.  I pray that what I have and continue to learn will breathe encouragement into each of you so that you can feel empowered to raise your children with confidence towards a life that makes a difference.  Our kids… they have so much potential.  If only we can harness it and teach them to use it for good!

I must make mention here that there have been countless numbers of people who have supported, taught and encouraged me to this point in my life.  You will see a number of resources from authors, speakers and bloggers who have influenced me from afar.  But there are also people like my mother, whose story of perseverance and leadership deserves a biography in and of itself, my sister who has been there no matter how “ugly” I have been over the years, my husband, who with his fierce love and support has allowed me to become a better version of myself, and my children, whose little lives remind me daily to cherish the little things every single day.  I don’t know where I would be without their love and support and so I thank them.  I am a blessed and loved woman.

Please enjoy the blog and resources on this site.  Take what is useful to you and leave the rest.  In many ways, I am a mom who is learning out loud here, and inviting you to join me in this journey of raising kids with leadership skills and positive influence.  Thank you for exploring MomsOfInfluence.com! Please contact me if you have questions, concerns or comments.
