It has been FAR TOO LONG since I have written here on the blog! I admit I have struggled with time management since having a tough third pregnancy and then adjusting to life as a working mom with THREE kiddos and a part-time hobby of encouraging people to live healthy! Ha! There just aren’t enough hours in the day!
But as I sit here this morning posting some encouragement in one of my challenge groups, I am reminded of WHY I decided to become a health & lifestyle coach with Team Beachbody. Maybe I am writing it here to remind myself when I need it, or maybe I want to make it clear to all of you! Regardless, it won’t hurt for me to share my heart here!
When I became a mama in 2012, my heart just overflowed with love. I mean… OVERFLOWED! I couldn’t imagine life before being a mom. I was BORN to do just this: be a mama! Along with that, though, I felt this God-given burden to do my part to influence our next generation for good. I have felt that burden for quite some time, but becoming a mom made that burden grow immensely as I know my kids will be living in a world LED BY our next generation.
The thing is, I don’t have time to personally mentor every young person I meet. I wish I did! But you know who does (or should) have the time to mentor all of them? YOU! The adults who are regularly in their lives. Whether you are a mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandparent or good friend of the parents of a young person, YOU have the opportunity to significantly impact the life of someone who may be playing a leadership role in the future of our country or even world.
And if you go by John Maxwell’s super simple definition of leadership as “influence… nothing more, nothing less”, then you most definitely are in the position of influencing a leader. We ALL lead our world in one way or another and my goal.. my desire… is to see SO MUCH GOOD emanate from all of us so that the bad is overwhelmed.
Enter coaching. For about 12 years of my life, I lived in hiding – covered with shame and fear because I believed I would never measure up to what the world expected of me. I tried to measure up by restricting calories, following fad diets and exercising far too much. Instead of learning to LOVE who I was, I became determined to CONTROL what I looked like in an effort to feel accepted.
After seeing counselors and nutritionists and digging deep into my faith in a God who made me for a plan and a purpose, I almost developed an anger at the diet industry and all of its messages about what we “should” and “should not” do and eat to be “skinny” like so many of us have aspired to be in our lives.
I have come to believe that “dieting” does more harm than good and after I learned to just live healthy, I wanted to help others do the same. Once I learned to live healthy and not care so much about what other people thought, I started seeing the connection between physical health and emotional, mental and spiriting health.
Here’s the thing… too many of us live behind a shroud of shame and feeling like we are not good enough because of how we look or what the scale says. Some of us have even developed health issues related to how we treat our bodies that limit what we can do in life. When we live in shame or discontent with ourselves, or are limited because of how we treat our bodies, we are most certainly not giving our best to the world around us (even if we feel like we are!).
Our kids – the next generation – deserve to have healthy, confident role models who PROACTIVELY teach them to do good in the world. While there are some things we cannot control (e.g., chronic health conditions, terminal or life limiting diagnoses, etc.), we can do what is within our control to improve our quality of life and ability to be more present for our kiddos.
So here I am, encouraging YOU to do everything you can to LIVE HEALTHY while also keeping your priorities in tact. Join me in growing your health journey over on Wesgate Wellness or Contact me for more information on how you can start moving towards a healthier life!!
